1. Hemodialysis. This is a procedure where your blood is filtered and cleaned outside your body by a machine or an artificial kidney, and then returned back to you. This process is done three times a week at the dialysis unit.

2. Peritoneal dialysis. This is a procedure where your blood is cleaned inside your body. A special fluid is put into your belly that absorbs waste products. The fluid is then drained away. This process is done every day or night at home.

Scientists are still working on a model for Bio artificial kidney.
